Racer of the Month - Dustin Delaney
We are happy to introduce Dustin Delaney as the June 2007 Team Kendall Racer of the Month. Delaney started competing at just nine years old when he got behind the wheel of his first go-kart. Now, at age 17, racing has become a big part of the Delaney household. His family provides the continuous support that has allowed him to excel and grow in his young racing career.
"I would not be here without my family," he said. "My parents help to supply a lot of my equipment and are definitely my biggest fans on the track."
After starting with go-karts, Delaney quickly advanced to Slingshots and currently races DIRT 358 Modified. The transition came easily to him because he learned early on about the importance of remaining in perfect control of the vehicle.
"You cannot bobble even an inch when you drive go-karts or Slingshots if you want to win," explained Delaney. "Beginning with these vehicles taught me how to drive more smoothly and consistently, which better prepared me for Stock Car driving."
The transition to Stock Cars went so effortlessly that, in 2004, Delaney's fourth time racing a Sportsman Modified, he won his first race at the age of 15. Delaney continues to compete in Sportsman Modified races and has had a strong start this season. He currently competes weekly in the DIRT 358 Modified class at several tracks throughout Eastern New York and Western Vermont. In addition, Delaney will be testing a Busch East car in anticipation of competing at selected races this year in hopes of running the entire Busch East schedule next year.
"I have been very fortunate to have begun my career with many knowledgeable racers around me," he said. "I usually try to seek out guidance from more seasoned competitors because listening to their advice has helped me get better at multiple aspects of the sport."
Delaney has quickly recognized the importance of staying focused and confident, while still having fun. Although the competition can be fierce, he doesn't let his opponents distract him. During races, Delaney focuses on his own driving ability and what he needs to do to become a better racer.
Delaney is sponsored by Farrell Oil, upstate New York's number one supplier of Kendall motor oils, greases, hydraulic oils and gear lubricants. Delaney's father, Tim Delaney, owns Delaney Construction and has been a Farrell Oil customer for nearly 20 years.
"Team Kendall is a positive way to support loyal customers like the Delaneys," said Phil Faraone, sales manager at Farrell Oil. "Sponsoring Dustin has been a wonderful way for our company to pursue a personal and working relationship with their family, and it also provides a nice tie-in to the Kendall Motor Oil products we provide to them."
This year marks Delaney's second year as a Team Kendall racer, and he uses Kendall Motor Oil products to guarantee that his car always runs at its best.
"It has been a pleasure to race for Team Kendall and I still have a lot of opportunities to prove myself as the up-and-comer to watch," he said.
We are excited to watch Delaney accomplish his racing goals in the seasons ahead!
